Kittens died ;(
Posted by: Viz0n on March 11th, 2010

Due to some serious issues that have now been resolved, we are back up and running. However, we lost some very good kittens a few days ago and our latest DB backup. We have had no choice but to revert back to an older copy.

Fear not! The kittens are strong willed and we will grow stronger and rebuild quickly as we start to unroll the new updates. :D

InSearch Beta 1.2 - The Intelligent Search and Extract Tool
Posted by: Viz0n on December 4th, 2009

Kitties are happy to present our first public tool!

What is InSearch? InSearch is a tool designed to give you full power when it comes to searching for text in files and directories, and doing text extraction and replacing. When doing directory based searching, you can include or exclude certain file types.

InSearch makes full use of Regular Expressions, giving you FULL POWER when it comes to doing text string based extraction from files. InSearch also makes use of it's own Regular Expression based language. However, the language is still being developed, but once done you will not have to work with complicated Regular Expressions, unless you want to.

InSearch was built on C#.NET 3.5

Example of extraction from a file:

New Team Icons
Posted by: Viz0n on October 6th, 2009

Here at r00tsecurity, we are continuously looking for ways to better organize the site make it easier for the community to connect and help us make it better. That is why we have rolled out a new system, where every staff member will have a team avatar which will show which section and team that they work, along with whether they are head of that section or not.

The current new icons are as follows:

Generic Team Icon (apart of r00tsecurity)

Admin Team : Administrator of Manager of a specific area or team.

Forum Team : Monitor and moderate the forum and keep things organized.

Wiki/r00tpedia Team : They work on and spend most of their time maintaining the wiki.

The Resource DB Team : They work and spend most of their time maintaining the DB Area of the network.

The Scene : These guys are not apart of the r00tsecurity team. Instead, they are admins from other sites and other known people who are in "The Scene".

(we will be rolling out new teams through out the week)

Yeah, downtime...
Posted by: Viz0n on October 1st, 2009

Basically, downtime today was due to the LiteSpeed Lic. running out and I forgot to renew due to lack of funds which lead to the downtime over mid week. The issue has since been taken care of and LiteSpeed is back up and running.

r00t 2.1 Developmenet in the works!
Posted by: Viz0n on September 12th, 2009

If you have not seen already, the forums have gotten a complete makeover! This is the first step of many that we plan to make in order to take r00tsecurity back to the top. We are still making tweaks to the skin, and making plans for the site, but we expect to have most of the site finished by the end of this week.

I would also like to apologize to everyone who sent me PMs over a month ago asking to get involved. If you still wish to get involved, please send me a PM and I'll be sure to get back to you. Right now we have a big need for people to help with the database and wiki development once we get these systems back online and running.

Stay tuned for more updates.

 Tip of the Week
Use strong passwords: Even if your hash gets dumped, it will be a pain to crack and in most cases will get skipped over.
